Education Facilities in Spain

Spanish Schools have an excellent academic reputation and foreign students are admitted in Spanish Schools without an admission examination and re-located in classes depending on the year of birth.

The educational years.

2-6 years old   “ESCUELA INFANTIL” – Kindergarten

There is also a major reconstruction in the Spanish School system going on at the moment and changes are expected in the near future.


As well as an International English Speaking Private School in Los Altos and two Colleges in Alicante and Elche, one for girls and one for boys – private.  These are very exclusive and have a high standard.

The following is a list of international schools in Andalucía, ranging from those that offer a purely British or American program to those that follow the Spanish curriculum but with a strong emphasis on tuition in English. Purpose-built international, bilingual, co-educational day school for children 3-18 years. The school is a non-profit company, parents buy shares when their children enter, and are reimbursed on leaving. 620 students and 62 fully-qualified and experienced graduate staff. Courses follow the guidelines of both the British national curriculum and the Spanish LOGSE. The school is authorized to convalidate in the Upper School the international qualifications of IGCSE and IB with the Spanish national awards of ESO, BUP, COU and Selectividad. Students go on to university in UK, Spain and elsewhere in Europe and USA. Excellent facilities include four modern Science Laboratories, computer centre, music suite, art and design studio, nursery, library, multi purpose hall and two outdoor sport areas. The school has an orchestra, choir and individual music tuition is available in ten instruments. Examiners from the UK visit annually to award certificates for music, drama and ballet. The Benalmadena International College is situated in Nueva Torrequebrada, just off the N-340 coast road, between Benalmadena and Fuengirola. Nueva Torrequebrada is a new, exclusive urbanisation just metres from the sea and an established golf course.

The College has just completed its first phase in development and consists of school building, cafeteria and sports pitches. The second phase, which will start in 2006, will include an extra school building just for senior pupils, an indoor sports centre and a heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool. The third phase will be a Hall of Residence for visiting schools and teams.

Sunland International School opened in September 2001 on a spacious countryside campus close to Cartama Estacion, near Malaga University and the Scientific and Technological Park of Andalucia. The School is no more than 25 minutes from eastern and central Malaga, Torremolinos, Benalmadena-Costa, Churriana, Alhaurin, Pizarra or Coin. Sunland offers an international curriculum, and will seek authorization to offer the Primary Years (PYP), Middle Years (MYP) and IB Diploma Programs of the International Baccalaureate Organization. English is the primary language of instruction, plus Spanish language and other courses in line with Ministry of Education guidelines. The School will offer Early Years and Primary classes for 3 to 9 year olds in September 2001, expanding annually thereafter to include the middle and secondary years. Well qualified teachers, mainly from the UK and Spain, ensure high quality teaching with an emphasis on the individual development of each student. The curriculum includes Information Technology, Music, Drama, Dance, Sports and Swimming. A variety of optional extracurricular activities take place after school.

The school is also a member of the Independent Schools Careers Organization, who offer valuable advice and information on further study of future careers. Calpe is the recommended examination centre for several boards, including Cambridge, Oxford and GCSE courses. 125,000-225,000 ptas a term.
